Are you wanting to enhance the "employability" (and productivity) of staff? Survivability training can do the trick. In study after study, employers across the continent have told labour force experts their vision of an "ideal" worker. We want workers who are strong communicators, they say. People who are able to read and comprehend in the language in which business is conducted. We want adaptable workers who think critically, and use technology effectively. People who are eager to learn, who are observant, honest, ethical and positive. We want strong time managers, who set goals and plan. When hiring or promoting people, we look for workers who are responsible and accountable, customer oriented. People who are team-players. Some workers, upon hearing expectations like these, become overwhelmed and worry that they'll never be able to meet expectations like this. Others feel threatened, knowing how far from the ideal they are. Instead of clarifying employer's expectations and motivating workers to meet them, this list of fairly stringent demands tends to add to the confusion. And confused employees too easily become half-hearted workers. If you're looking for a friendly non-threatening way to help employees maximize their own effort, Survivability Programs can help:
Ten "core" skills form the basis of Survivability Programs. These are the skills, abilities and talents that people need to become involved and be proactive.
Perhaps more than at any time in our industrial history, workers of all kinds, from senior managers to entry level support staff need skills of this kind to successfully direct their careers.
